M Driver’s Package

BMW delivers M cars with the top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h. The M Driver’s Package, option code 7ME, raises that limit to the higher figure the factory set for your model. This retrofit enables the same option on a car that left the plant without it.

What it does

The electronic limiter moves from 250 km/h to the value the manufacturer assigns your model with this option, typically between 270 and 290 km/h depending on the car. Nothing mechanical changes and nothing is tuned: the option tells your car to stop holding itself back.

From the factory, BMW sells this option together with its driver training. The training is theirs and is not part of this retrofit; what your car gets is the option itself, the raised limiter.

How you use it

There is nothing to switch on and nothing to learn. Once the option is installed, the higher limit simply applies, in the places where using it is legal.

Which cars can take it

  • M models across several generations, not only the newest: BMW offers the option on the current G generation M cars as well as on the F80, F82 and F83 M3 and M4, and on the F90 M5 before the facelift
  • What decides is what is fitted and coded in your exact car, so the free check at the car has the final word

The honest limits

  • A raised limiter is not permission. Speed limits and local rules apply everywhere; the stretches where this option means anything are the ones with no posted limit.
  • After the installation the app reads the option back off your car and confirms it is there. What we install is the factory’s own option; a road or a track to demonstrate the top end on is not something we offer.
  • Only for M models, and only after your own car has answered yes in the free check.

What it costs

EUR 149One time, for one car.

You pay once, in the app, for one car. The check that tells you whether your own car can take the feature is free and comes first.

How it gets onto your car

This is a coding retrofit: the feature is activated through the official channel and written to your car while you stand next to it, over the MHD Universal adapter. No part is fitted and no wire is run.

Plan for about 5 minutes at the car for the free check and about 6 minutes for the installation, with a short wait in between while your files are prepared.

Questions

What does it cost compared to the factory option?

Ordered new, the M Driver’s Package is a four figure option tied to a driver training. Our price is shown in the app after the free check; you pay once, for one car, and the check itself costs nothing.

Does it work on my M3 F80 or M4 F82?

BMW offers the option for that generation too: F80, F82 and F83, and the pre-facelift F90 M5. Whether your exact car can take it is what the free check at the car answers, before you pay anything.

Is anything actually tuned?

No. No map is changed and no part is swapped. The option tells the electronics to apply the factory limit for your model, the same option BMW sells from the factory, installed later.
