Why your car has the function and still does not offer it
On many G series cars everything remote start needs is already fitted: the parts are there and the software knows the feature. What is missing is the option itself, 1CR, in the car’s configuration. BMW sells it in markets like the USA, Canada or China; on European order sheets it simply does not appear.
That is why the retrofit is a coding job and not a parts job. Nothing is added that the manufacturer did not write; the car is told it has the option it was built for.
Way 1: E-Sys, an ENET cable and an FSC code
The classic self-coding route: a laptop with E-Sys, an ENET cable, 1CR added to the vehicle order, and then every involved control unit coded to the new order, the body controller, the instrument cluster, the climate control and more. Forums document the parameters, and on older software it can work.
The catch is the newer cars. Current software generations expect signed material through the official channel, and that is nothing E-Sys alone can produce. This is where the FSC code shops come in, and where the threads full of half-working attempts start: indicators blink, the car clicks, the engine never starts.
Way 2: a coding service
Coding services do the same work over your ENET connection, remotely or in person, with their material and their experience. It can be a fine choice; you pay for their time, prices vary widely, and you depend on their schedule and on how they handle the signed parts.
Way 3: the app, with the adapter you already own
Casto Flasher does the whole retrofit from your phone over the MHD Universal Adapter: the free check first, then the activation through the official channel, then the coding of every involved control unit, written while you stand next to the car. About 5 minutes for the check, about 6 for the installation.
You do not shop for a code, you do not touch a laptop, and you only pay after your own car has answered yes.
Honestly: coding it yourself is not wrong
If you enjoy E-Sys and your car’s software generation still allows it, the self-coding route is a real one, and this page would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. The reasons for the app are the signed material newer cars demand, the free check before any money, and not owning the failure mode at eleven at night.
And no method changes what your car is: a petrol engine, current software, and the option supported in your exact build. The free check answers that before you spend anything, on any route.
Questions
Is BimmerCode enough for this?
No. Option 1CR needs several control units coded against a changed vehicle order, and newer cars additionally expect signed activation material. Settings apps do not cover that, which is why the attempt usually ends with an error in the iDrive.
What does an FSC code for 1CR cost?
Shops ask roughly 50 to 200 euros for the code alone, and the code alone codes nothing. With Casto Flasher the activation is part of the installation; the app shows the price after the free check.
How long does the whole thing take with the app?
About 5 minutes at the car for the free check, a short wait while your files are prepared, and about 6 minutes for the installation. You stand next to the car the whole time.
The shortest way starts with the free check
The app reads your car, tells you whether it can take 1CR, and you pay only after that.
